Poet, Journalist and Broadcaster Donny O'Rourke
reads from his latest collection.
Donny has overlapping careers as TV producer, broadcaster, journalist, academic and poet. Performances attract rave reviews at festivals, in community settings, schools and universities and cabaret, live, on television, radio and CD. With nearly a score of books to his name Donny has garnered praise, prizes and professorships both at home and overseas. Most recently he edited 'Dream State: The New Scottish Poets' and has just published his much acclaimed ninth collection, 'Blame Yesterday', a mini musical in monologues. A CD, 'Cafe Europa', featuring his lyrics and the music of Swiss group Morgain was launched in Bern in January 2010. He is an Honorary Fellow of Glasgow University where he teaches Film and Creative Writing.

Poet Pauline Prior Pitt
comes to the Bakehouse from South Uist.
Pauline has appeared on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, Pick of the Week, Channel 4, Central, and Carlton Television. Her One Woman Shows attract large audiences at festivals and her North Uist Sea Poems won the Callum Macdonald Memorial Award for pamphlet poetry in 2006. Pauline writes about the relationships between men and women, family life, the domestic scene, gynaecology, political issues, dresses, the ageing process, and love and death. In her book ‘Storm Biscuits’ she writes about the landscape of North Uist where she now lives.

I was trying to think why it is such a particular pleasure coming to The Bakehouse, apart from the lovely surroundings and wonderful hospitality, and I realise it is the unique wonder of being appreciated for ourselves but in respect of what matters most to us.
